What do you do in your position at SAGE?
I am the Supplier Sales Manager and I work with suppliers on the West Coast to help them grow their business with SAGE distributors.
What was your first job? Did it teach you anything that you still use today?
My first job was in my family’s printing and promotional business. Being in a position of leadership since I was a family member, this instilled the obligation and desire to lead by example. I could not ask more from my employees than I was willing to give.
What attracted you to the promotional products industry?
I enjoy helping any business promote who they are and what they do. Every company is unique in its product offering so every promotional marketing mix looks different depending on who they are trying to reach and what they sell.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud of venturing out on my own, away from my family business to allow myself more room to grow and work with new people that come from all different walks of life. I have settled in with a great company and have been promoted from a sales account manager to the supplier sales manager where I have the privilege of mentoring sales people and teaching them by using my past experience in sales and management.
What do you do in your free time?
What do you think is the key to succeeding in the industry?
I think it is important to know your client’s business and what they are trying to accomplish. Whether that is knowing the supplier and their products and how SAGE fits into their marketing mix or a distributor getting to know their buyer and what they are trying to achieve at the end of the day. It’s not just selling a product, it is helping your client become successful by building them up through advertising and getting them out there in front of their target market.
What keeps you motivated in your career?
I enjoy seeing my supplier’s ad campaigns increase their business. I like learning about all different types of companies and products. I have been in the industry quite a long time and I like passing that experience on to my sales team and motivating them to succeed. It is a different opportunity and a new challenge every single day.
If you could have invented one promotional product, what would it be?
The can cooler. I have never seen a tradeshow without one.
If there were a book written about your life, what would it be titled?
